Saturday Country Wire & Damage Fund

What is the Saturday Country Wire and Damage Fund?

The fund was originally set up in 1947 to assist the Hunt in fence repairs, opening up of country and entertaining farmers in the Belton area of Quorn Hunt Country. The idea came on a return trip from the Grand National: founder members were Frank and Jane Hewitt, Charlie and Nan Shields, Tom and Dorothy Hughes, Major Shakespeare and Ron and Edna Cotton ,who were quickly joined by Daphne  Barnett, (nee Porter), Bill and Peggy Loweth and Donald and Rosemary Shields.

The Committee has regularly fund raised ever since with support from enthusiastic and hard working members, including some well known hunting characters! In fact the continuity has been illustrated by the fact that there have only ever been 3 chairmen and the aims of the fund remain the same, together with general support for the hunt.

Saturdays may not be the most fashionable area and you still need a good horse to take on some of the trappier places but it has been a good area for people to learn about hunting.
